What must be understood is the difference between the ANC in government and the ANC outside government and their roles respectively, so as to understand why the ANCYL responded in that manner even though i felt it was too emotional to be posted to the Media.

The Hellen Zille statement was rather insensitive and disrespectfull to the president of the republic and i think an apology would be in order, so that we can move on as one South Africa not 8 Provinces + 1.

To all on this site and Tony. Have read all comments regading YL and Helen Zille. Why don’t the YL concentrate more on what they are supposed to stand for. Upliftment of the youth, etc. Someone’s comment was quite true…..the YL, ANC are more concerned about their political power than the people of this country. Start concentrating on what is really important and stop all this internal political blame. Helen Zille is premier of the W. Cape….LIVE WITH IT!!! Get a life and do some good!!

Generalisations don’t help when looking for the positives! The reality is that people do change … if there is motivation for them to change.

You know people I have been I Cape Town for 6 years and to tell you the truth it is different here compared to Durban for an example. The people here are racist but there is nothing I can do about it. This will always be the case because other people will never change. This we even see with our government. S.A is a lovely country and I decided to take the positives and make them shine so that I can live my life and enjoy it. I’m young and have a lot to do, a lot to see and learn.

While there are a lot of, mainly white, South Africans that are overtly racist, the tag is now being used so loosely that it could mean anything, and nothing.

And like anything that is overused, it eventually loses its power and effect.

I have to wonder about how many people realise Zille is far from racist. Helen Zille was an anti-apartheid activist who repeatedly put her life in danger in order to bring about a free, non-racist South Africa. She exposed the truth about Steve Biko while she was still a journalist. Zille also allowed the use of her home as a safe house for other activists. She was forced into hiding for two years because of her activity against the Apartheid government.

The term “racist” should never be applied to Zille. However, I do agree that maybe she could have been more tactful, or perhaps toned down of the character assassination of Jacob Zuma. Our country does not need anymore conflict. Our leaders, both Zuma and Zille should be working together towards a better South Africa. After all, there are a lot of issues that are far more important, crime and poverty just being two of them.

Time for both of them, and their executives, to get on with their jobs. They are being paid to run a country and a province respectively.

We spend our lives emphasizing our differences when we actually have more in common than we are prepared to admit. So, maybe the two of them will end up being buddies!!

And finally, nobody is all bad. Equally, nobody is all good. It applies to both Zille and Zuma, but most of all, to the opinions that the supporters of each hold about the other. (That made sense??)

All we have to do is work with what we have. People want to always prove that they are better than others. If Helen thinks what she is doing is right she will see in a long run if it works for her. At times people want to be seen as the strongest while they not. Our President is Jacob and Helen has her position lets leave it like that.

Do you realise how ignorant and Youth League-ish you sound? “ARE U TEH SPAWN oF VoSTER!!?!!” I wouldn’t be surprised if there was drool coming out of your mouth at this very moment.

Back to topic, the comments about Zille are vile and juvenile. There is a saying that when you use stupid in a sentence too many times, it says something about yourself. This is true here, the youth league clearly allows only under 14′s to apply.

Helen Suzman was lucky in one respect. She was always the opposition. It was simple. All her actions were predicated on that fact and her belief in human rights.

Helen Zille is in difficult place. She is still the official opposition but must now govern the Western Cape. Hard to wear two hats.
